LFS is a great name – where did it come from?
It’s short for Ladies Fancywork Society. Most of the letters we chose came from the alphabet. If you put the letters together and sound them out you say the name of our group.
Yarn bombing is a somewhat harmless activity – have any tales of running from the police?
No. Only from that time we stabbed a guy. Not from yarn bombing. Also, people just assume that we’re supposed to do the thing we’re doing when they see us installing a piece. SO it’s pretty easy to get away with it 🙂
How many of you are in the collective? Any secret members?
4. And none of your business.
Tell us a bit about your work, career, school, city, ideas, etc
What is more important – Content or technique?
They are both pretty key. Crochet is definitely a particular skill but we really try to focus LFS’s work on not just the craft but the story that we’re creating, so we’re constantly in a state of balancing both of these concepts.
How many hours do your pieces generally take to complete?
All of the hours. HahahahHHAAHHhahah *crazy laugh*
What are some of the responses you hear in regards to your work?
A lot of people say it makes them happy. One guy thought we were wasting zip ties. A few people want us to do
something more productive with our specific skill set. Many people have been surprised we’re not old ladies. Many of
our street artist peers are surprisingly receptive to our medium, which is pretty awesome to get such positive feed back
from people whose opinions we definitely respect.
What is currently influencing you that might surprise people?
We’re constantly influenced by our surroundings. Denver is awesome and so is the whole world. A lot of our art is site
specific so each piece is really influenced by its location. Basically we just free the piece from the yarn after it tells us
what it wants to be.
Describe your work environment – Music, TV, Movies, things you drink/smoke, time of day etc
Basement, Disney, Ludacris, alcohol, weed, Harry Potter, mushrooms, voodoo dolls, gnomes, sometimes mannequins, all the live long day. We call it our LFS Tree house Dungeon! Also: dancing, singing loud and talking over each other constantly. Finger licking. Ice cream, pizza, coffee, tea, cereal, stickers, sparkles, unicorns, glitter. Dirty concrete floors. Being a burrito. Home Depot. More alcohol. Tacos. Wet willies. More dancing. Zip ties. Sizzurp. Bath salts, the kind you
soak in. Bubbles!! Sea mammals. Color, all the colors. Pinkie swears. That’s my eyebrow! SCARE! Dog friends, park days. Belly buttons. Road trips. Gang tattoooos son! Late nights and pillow fights. LOLing….also crime. That’s about it!
Any plans to work with different materials?
Anything art related you want to plug?
Check out our piece for Colorado Crush 16! 27th and Larimer. His name is Geoge and he wants to meet you.
If you could choose only one, would you rather be thought of as a great artist or a nice person?
A nice person. We like making people happy and sharing our high fives!
